Businesses and transport
have also been paralyzed after the road that connects Chibumba to Kisoro town
became flooded at Chibumba primary school. The affected part
stretches for about a kilometre long and has made it difficult for both
pedestrians and motorists to cross to the other end.

council for
about seven hours on Tuesday night were eight people died due to mudslide.

mayor of Chahafi town council said floods have paralyzed business and
transport in the area since people cannot cross the via Chibumba trading
centre. He called upon the government to intervene and bring geologists to find
out the problems as water continues to spill out from the ground.
The head teacher of
Chibumba primary school Christopher Ntezeyobi said the school with enrolment of
743 pupils has been greatly affected as nothing was spared because the office
and the room are inaccessible. He said stationary and other valuable documents
of the school have been destroyed. He fears that some classroom may collapse
due weakened walls by water that is above foundation level.

affected villages are calling upon the government and other humanitarian
agencies to help them with food relief since their gardens have been submerged
and property destroyed. Those with businesses say they are no longer accessing
