Bizimana, Kisoro District LC5 Chairman has been unanimously elected as the new
Chairman for South Western Regional Development Forum (SWRDF).
South
Western Regional Development Forum is an umbrella that started in 2018
comprised of political, civil society, private sectors and educationists
stakeholders from the districts of Kisoro,Kabale, Rubanda, Rukiga,Kanungu,
Rukungiri, Ntungamo, Rwampara,Mitooma, Sheema,Rubirizi, Bushenyi,Buhweju,Ibanda,Kazo,Kiruhura,Mbarara
Isingiro and Mbarara City aimed at advocacy for investments that will enhance
production and productivity, savings, employment and wealth creation.
Bizimana
replaces the late Patrick Besigye Keihwa former Kabale District LC5 Chairman
who succumbed to Covid-19 in June 2021. Bizimana was elected unopposed during
the Stake holders meeting held at Hotel triangle in Mbarara city on
Thursday. Bizimana is deputized by Dr. Mesharch Walto Kamusiimeh an
Associate Professor in the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences at Kabale
University while Evelyn Ninsiima Kikafunda Executive Director of the Green
Environment Promotion (GEP), anon government organization operating in Rubanda
district was elected as the secretary general.
Among
the steering committee members include; Dr.Clementia Murembe Neema, a senior lecturer
in the faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies at Mbarara University of Science
and Technology, Dr.Edmond Kansiime, the head of planning monitoring and
evaluation of Petroleum Authority of Uganda, Dr.Daisy Owomugasho the regional
director of Hunger project in East Africa, Julius Karuhanga, Rwampara county
member of parliament and Lucky Sheila Musimenta the site manager for Tranidit
Limited and also a member of woman executive committee for Kabale district
among others.
Speaking
to our reporter in Kabale town on Friday, Bizimana says that in the three-year
term office he is required to serve the forum and will jointly work with investors to
establish investments in the districts as a way of enhancing trade and job
creation as well as promotion of regional trade. Bizimana also says that
the forum will play a role in mediating and reconciling misunderstandings and
fights that happen among leaders in districts.
He
also says that the forum will focus on promotion of tourism, commercialized
agriculture, empowerment of marginalized and vulnerable people, development of
the mining sector, and preventive health among others.
