KISORO: Several people admitted to hospital after consuming expired alcoholic drink

 

Several people from Gase A Village, Kamonyi Ward in Kisoro Municipality are admitted to St Francis Hospital Mutolere after they allegedly drank expired alcohol that was dumped in a landfill by unknown people.

The alcoholic drink known as Kyeeza scooby packed in plastic bottles expired in the month of December 2022. It was allegedly dumped by unknown people in Gase on Monday 29th May 2023.

Residents in the area used the opportunity to drink free alcohol however things turned worse when people begun developing complications that required them to be admitted to hospital.

Residents say over 30 people started falling prostrate along the road after consuming the drink. They added that 15 were given sugar to save them while two are still admitted. 

Gase A Village LCI Zidoro John says Unknown people came and offloaded expired alcohol in the area which prompted people to drink it in plenty. Over 1000 cartons were offloaded and dumped in the garbage field.

Niringiye Dan, an eye witness said he offered first aid to one of the people who was almost dying because of consuming expired alcohol.

However doctors at Mutorele hospital say they did not admit anyone with complications may be if they presented other symptoms.

Meanwhile, Police in Kisoro is investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 73 years old man who died yesterday as a result of Alcohol abuse.

The deceased has been identified as Jackson Mukungu, a resident ofBuhayo village Mbuga parish Nyakinama Sub County, Kisoro district.

It's alleged that on 28^th of May, 2023, Mukungu Jackson (now deceased) spent the whole day drinking Mkomboti and Waragi together with his son in kiseke trading center.

He later bought some pork and informed his son that he was going to prepare some food for himself.

Instead Mukungu went back to the trading center and continued drinking Waragi and forgot about preparing some food for himself.

The son of the deceased, Habimana Vincent said he received information that his fatherwas discovered dead with his body lying in the middle of the road in Bugwene village.

The body was taken to Kisoro Hospital Moturay for Post Mortem and later handed over to the family for burial.
