Police in Kisoro District is investigating the murder of a man who was lynched to death by mob for allegedly stealing irish potatoes from Tumushiime's garden.
Kigezi
Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate identified the suspect as Nsabimaana a
resident of Burihira village in Rwaramba Parish in Nyakinama Sub County who was
beaten last night at unknown time.
Maate
told journalists today that the case was reported at Nyakinama Police Post by Rwihandagaza
Moses.
Its
alleged that the deceased was got in the irish potatoes garden Tumushiime Amos in
Rwaramba Parish , Nyakinama subcounty, where he was allegedly stealing irish
potatoes and was arrested and assaulted to death and his body was left at the
scene of crime with an exhibit of a half sack of Irish potatoes.
Maate
said that, the scene of crime was today morning visited and documented by Scene
of Crime Officer from Kisoro Central Police Station together with homicide
detectives led by Tuhabwe Robert and the body was retrieved and taken to Kisoro
General Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Maate
however said that the police have arrested the owner of the irish potato
garden, Tumushiime Amos to assist in investigations and the case was registered
at Kisoro Central Police Station.
Early this week a
20 year old man Ngororano Dickson a resident of Gasave village ,Nyakinama sub
county in Kisoro was also lynched to death for stealing a bunch of Matooke.
However, Maate
condemned the act of mob justice where a suspect is killed before the police use
its mandate to ensure that justice prevails and warned that whoever
participated in the mob would be apprehended and dealt with according to the
laws.
