At least 30 youth from Kisoro district were
yesterday flagged off to attend a spotlight symposium in Kampala organized by
Gudie Leisure Farm (GLF).
The spotlight will be held in Najeera Kira
Municipality, Wakiso on 7th and 8th May 2023.
Speaking before flagging off the group, the
district Gudie Leisure Farm agent, Byiringiro Amos Denis said spotlight
symposium is held every after a period of six months with intentions of
training the youth on how to engage in Agro business and improve on their lives.
He noted that the specific districts within south
western region that will be under spotlight are Kisoro, Kazo, Kiruhura, Kabale,
Kanungu, Mbarara, Isingiro, Sheema, Rubanda, Rukyiga, Ibanda, Buhweju,
Rubiriza, Rukungiri, Rwampara, Mitooma and Ntungamo.
Mr. Byiringiro added that participants in spotlight
will come back with 100 chicken and young fish for rearing as well as training
others to engage in agriculture
Speaking to voice of Muhabura, Professor Gudula
Naiga Basaza, founder and managing director of Gudie Leisure Farm said that the
spotlight symposium is also to enlighten the country about the investment
opportunities in the region and celebrate its rich cultural heritage.
She also noted that the spotlight event will
involve insightful discussions about the business opportunities that the region
offers and the strategies that can be employed to sustainably exploit them
Professor Gudula challenged the youth to change the
negative attitude towards farming thinking that it is for the uneducated who
have nothing to do
Some of the Youth on contingent praised Gudie
Leisure Farm for equipping them with different skills about farming as well as
making animal feeds.
They say that the spotlight event will give them an
opportunity to learn cultures of other region through music, dance, drama and
food
