Nyanamo Community Conservation and Development organisation on Sunday 17 donated over 1,000 grevillea trees worth 10 million shillings to Kateriteri Army detach in a bid to promote conservation in the district.

Kateriteri Army barracks is one of the Uganda People's Defence Forces' detachments in Kisoro district under the 35th infantry battalion in Nyakabande.

The trees were delivered by the Nyanamo community conservation and Development organisation's chair Duhimbaze Ramech and were received by the 35th battalion second in command, Major Bosco Aguzo and Lieutenant Omita Kenan, UPDF political commissar for Kisoro district.

Duhimbaze said that his organisation supports and helps the government in creating a favourable eco system for everyone through restoration of green cover.

He also cited the organisation's plans to champion a district wide tree planting exercise in order to tackle landslide tendencies that escalate during rainy seasons.

In his appreciation speech, the 35th battalion's political commissar, Lieutenant Omita Kenan commended Nyanamo community conservation and development organisation for championing conservation activities in the district and its close partnership with the UPDF.

He noted that being a hilly district, Kisoro needs more conservationists in order to save people's lives, property and other losses that result from flooding, landslides and environmental degradation.
