KISORO: Man appologizes to his wife after disagreement over condolence money,RDC hands over 5M to them

-The Kisoro Resident district commissioner on Saturday 13th May handed over  5 million shillings condolence fund from the president to Habumugisha Daniel and his wife residents of Kabyaza village in Murora Sub County after several hours of engagement to reunite them.

A total of 10 people lost their lives to mudslides and floods that hit Kisoro 2nd May 2023 leaving two people injured. Out of 10 people who were killed by mudslides, 8 were from Murora Sub County and 2 from Maziba village in Bunagana town council.

Following the death of the people, President Museveni directed the State House Controller Jane Barekye to give Ugx 5million to each of the families that lost people and Ugx 1 million to each of those who were injured.

On Thursday this week, the state minister for disaster preparedness and refugees, Hon. Esther Anyakuni delivered 52 million shillings to the people who lost their beloved ones and those that sustained injuries but Habumugisha who lost a 7 year boy did not receive because her wife had left their home to her parents’ home.

Nsangiyenabo Juliet, a wife to Habumugisha Daniel fled her home immediately after the burial of their late baby for fear of her life because he was not sure of his husband’s health status.

Speaking before the congregation on Saturday, Juliet said she last saw her husband 7 years ago when he had come from a district in Buganda to pick a national ID. She noted that his husband had been away for another 4 years before he came for a national ID and he neither return home or make a phone call to check on his children.

According to the LC1 Chairman of Kabyaza village Munyatore Jackson, Juliet ran away with all condolence money raised at the burial two weeks ago, iron sheets donated by Speaker Amos Hakizimana and clothes as reported to him by his husband, Habumugisha.

However, Habumugisha apologized to her wife before community members and the wife accepted to go back home.

On Thursday Habumugisha said he had gone to look for money but came back home after sad news of the death of his son.

RDC Hajji Shafique Ssekandi handed over the condolence money to one of the residents chosen by the couple to control its spending on priority demands and an agreement was made. He asked men to always be responsible for their families.

The couple commended the RDC for his hard work and ensuring that they are reunited. They also commended president Museveni for the condolence message and vowed to utilize the money well, especially buying land for their children.

Meanwhile, on behalf of the local community, the LC2 for Chahafi parish commended the couple for the reunion. He also commended the president’s office for the support to mudslides and flood victims.
