KISORO: OWC coordinator Col Kayita refutes corruption allegation against his department

The Kisoro district Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) Commander, Colonel Deo Kayita has refuted Corruption allegations in his department as alleged by LCV Chairman, Abel Bizimana.

On Monday 15th May 2023, Bizimana accused the district production department of corruption, especially when receiving donations from NAADS. His comments followed an incident in which he discovered a truck loaded with over 4,000 apple seedlings at the district headquarters ready to supply to farmers when most top leaders were not aware.

However, in an exclusive interview with reporter  on Wednesday 16th May 2023 , Col. Kayita said that it is shocking for the LCV chairman who is a member of the district committee that receives government donations to accuse other members. He noted that other members of this committee are the RDC, DISO, OWC coordinator, CAO and a technical person.

He noted that the NAADS secretariat always makes call off orders to inform the district about its intentions to make a supply so that beneficiaries can be chosen, sensitized and prepared, which was not the case yesterday.

He explained that the reason why he and other leaders rejected over 4,000 apple seedlings yesterday was because the district was not aware and the planting season for apples is also off. According to the consignment notice dated on 9th May seen by our reporter, the supply of Apple seedlings worth 36 million were supposed to be today 16th May 2023 but farmers had come for them yesterday.

Fruit Farmers from Nyundo Sub County are agitated following the rejection of over 4,000 Apple seedlings by district yet they have been preparing for two months.

Meanwhile, he noted that he has reached an agreement with the NAADS executive director so that apple seedlings can be supplied to Kisoro in September this year.
