The Rotary Club of Mgahinga Kisoro on Tuesday 15th May 2023 condoled with the Biizi village LC1 Chairperson, Ntibarikure Gaudios with an envelope worth 720,000 shillings for him to get a starting point in the new life after the deadly mudslide that claimed his three children and a house earlier this month.
The envelope was delivered to him by Rotarians Kayonde John and Ndagije
Ezra at his residence in Biizi village Chibumba parish, Murora Sub County.
Mzee Kayonde noted that the money is a contribution from Rotary club
members in Kisoro aimed at supporting Gaudios in the trying times he is going
through.
Ndagije Ezra noted that the Rotary club of Mgahinga-Kisoro is also
arranging support for the whole village since landslides affected all residents
both directly and indirectly. He comforted the family by giving them words of
encouragement and faith.
Ntibarikure Gaudios appreciated the Rotary club of Mgahinga Kisoro and
prayed that its members keep the kind hearts they have for the suffering.
He noted that he still needs more support because he is starting a new
life after losing most of his property to mudslides.
On Wednesday 16 May marked exactly two weeks since the
deadly mudslide incident struck Murora Sub County and Chahafi town council, killing
8 people. The most affected was the family of Nyirabwegye Hope, aged 60, and
her husband Gaudiozi Ntibarikure, aged 68, who lost 3 children, a grandchild
and a casual labourer, when the house collapsed.
The two are
residents of Biizi village in Chibumba parish in Murora Sub County, where
Ntibarikure doubles as the area LC1 Chairperson.
The same
mudslide that hit the chairperson's house killed a Mutwa woman and severely
injured her husband, as they bypassed the ill-fated home.
Nyirabwengye Hope was also admitted to hospital in critical condition after struggling to come out of the debris of their destroyed house. She explains more.
Her husband, Ntibarikure
also explains what he has passed through a challenging situation, and was lucky
to have not been in the house during the incident.
In the same
night, a S6 student aged 21, Kazugu Nelson of Gihuyaga village and Uwineza
Recheal aged 7 years in Kabyaza village also lost their lives to the same
cause.
This family,
alongside other survivors have since received relief from the area MP Dr Nsaba
Buturo and other leaders, the government through the Office of the Prime
Minister, Rotary Club, the president and others.
Meanwhile, those dwelling in high risk areas have been
asked to relocate, and the point of planting trees in hilly areas has been
emphasised.
