Hon Dr James NsabaButuro has condoled families in Murora and Kanaba Sub
Counties that lost their loved ones in Tuesday’s mudslides.
Dr Buturo on Saturday 6th May 2023 visited three of
the six families that lost their loved ones in the hilly areas on Murora Sub
County during the mudsides that killed 8 people on Tuesday night, following six
hours of heavy downpour.
His support was in form of
encouragement, money and ironsheets to facilitate reconstruction of dwelling
houses for those who are currently out of shelter.
He supported the family of the Biizi
LC1 Chairperson NtibarikureGaudioz with 1 million Shillings and 30 iron sheets
to build a residential house.NsabaButuro appealed to community members to
support the family in ensuring they get back to their feet.
KabeeraCostant, a family member
appreciated the MP on their behalf, thanking the community for their efforts
when calamity hit.
IrakizaCostant, a resident of Gitebe
village in Kanaba Sub County, whose house was destroyed and 4 animals killed in
the mudslide will receive 20 ironsheets,
as well as the family of Sehene John, a mutwa of Biizi village in Murora Sub
County, whose wife died.
MrIrakiza appreciates NsabaButuro for
the support, saying he will start from there.
Dr NsabaButuro says more relief items
and support from the government are on the way, calling for persistence from
the victims. He noted that when the landslides hit, the Parliamentary Committee
on which he is a member was concluding investigations into the Karamoja Iron
sheets and goats scandal, a reason he did not join the families immediately.
The MP also called for concerted efforts towards mitigating future
disasters. He appealed for planting of trees which he tasked government to
provide seedlings to people, and also challenged people to avoid living in
risky areas.
The MP was flanked by the Murora Sub County LC3 Chairperson Peace
Lule and the Kisoro District Youth Secretary, NiyonzimaGaspari.
