RUKUNGIR._Police in Rukungiri have arrested a health worker for alleged murder of his own wife and attempted suicide.
The Kigezi police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate identified the suspect Jackson Arineitwe a healthy worker in charge Ngoma health centre 2 located in Nyakishenyi sub county Rubabo county, who allegedly stabbed Enid Natukunda to death with a knife.
According to police statement,it's alleged that on Friday 19/05/20 23, Enid Natukunda’s parents invited the couple for a visit which the husband declined on grounds that he did not have money to buy some essential items for the parents.
However, she insisted and visited her parents. On coming back, they picked a quarrel which forced Natukunda to start sleeping alone in the visitor’s room.
On Saturday night of 27/05/20 23, at their home at Rwenanura cell Nyabitete parish Buyanja sub county, the children heard their parents fighting and called their neighbors and upon arrival, they heard noise coming from the store and on entering, they saw Jackson hanging on the rope which they cut and rescued him from suicide.
According to Maate when neighbors entered the house they found the body of the woman lying down under the bed, her neck stabbed many times and immediately alerted Police at Buyanja which upon receiving the information, swung into action and secured the scene of crime and arrested the suspect. The murder weapon ( knife) was recovered and exhibited and blood samples from the deceased collected.
Body was conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Center 3 for postmortem.
Maate said inquiries are going on.
