Students of Kisoro Technical Institute in Nyakabande Sub County on Monday 19th June 2023 stormed Kisoro district headquarters to protest alleged maladministration at the institute.
Led by their guild president Irankunda Martin, students reached the district headquarters at noon in a calm situation.
Students accuse the administration of not attending to their learning grievances like missing some lessons without clear explanations. They allege that they pay real life project fees but they do not do the project among other complaints which they told the RDC and CAO.
Irankunda Martin alleges that some students sat for UBTEB exams but final results indicate that they missed the exams and that the institution demanded them to pay retake fee yet they sat for the exam.
Akello Betty, one of the concerned students, said that their dormitories are not in a good state.
While addressing the students at the district the Kisoro Resident District Commissioner says the complaints of the students indicate that there are many administrative gaps at Kisoro technical Institute which must be addressed.
He said they will visit the institution to demand for explanations from the administration before making conclusions on the issues raised by students.
The Kisoro Chief Administrative Officer Badru Mayanja said it is unfortunate and painful for students to pay school fees and fail to study well.
He promised that they are going to find out whether the accusations against the administration are true and find a possible solution so that the institution can operate well.
Mbarimo Eric the Kisoro technical Institute deputy principal dismissed all accusations levelled against the administration as not true. He said he has travelled to check on the Principal who is sick and that he will give an explanation when he comes back to Kisoro.
