Bukimbiri united Boda Boda member assaulted by KUBO leaders in Kisoro town

A 44 year old Boda rider at Kabagore stage in Nyundo Sub County is nursing injuries at Kisoro hospital after allegedly being assaulted by a section of Kisoro United Boda Boda Operators (KUBO) leaders.

The Victim has been identified as Byekwaso Everest, a resident of Makyazo village in Nyundo Sub County and a member of Bukimbiri united Boda Boda operators.

Bukimbiri united Boda Boda operators formed an independent association from KUBO early this year citing irregularities in KUBO leadership.

In an interview, Byekwaso said that he was attacked by the KUBO chairman Karangala Robert Nteziyaremye, KUBO defence secretary only identified as Miri and others while at Rubuguri stage in Kisoro municipality.

He says that the group attacked him demanding for the stage balance fees which he was not aware of. He adds that the group tried to grab his motorcycle but he became so hesitant hence being assaulted for over 20 minutes.

Byekwaso alleges to have lost 570,000 shillings, a phone and his motorcycle's side mirror during the scuffle.

The case has been reported at Kisoro police station under SD REF 63/29/06/2023. According to the police form three letter, Karagala Robert and others are being charged of simple robbery.

The Bukimbiri United Boda Boda operators (BUBO) Chairperson, Mugabe Robert said that he has hired a private lawyer to handle the matter. He noted that KUBO leadership has been harassing his members since its inception and over 11 motorcycles have been impounded and only 9 have been recovered.

He appealed to the government to find justice for BUBO members because it was registered as a lawful organisation allowed to operate anywhere in Uganda.

Meanwhile, in a phone interview with our  reporter, the KUBO chairperson, Karangala Robert pledged to comment about these allegations on Saturday 1st.
