The National Unity
platform president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has called upon the people in
Kabale District to desist from division and sectarianism calling for a
collaborative effort towards demanding people's needs.
These remarks were
made from his national wide mobilization campaign that rolled this week with
Mbarara, Fort Portal, Kasese and on Thursday 31 at around 12:30 Pm Kyangulanyi and the
National Unity Platform team made way to Kabale district where streets were
characterized by excitement from the supporters while police was also seen
standby.
Kyagulanyi was
accompanied by Mityana Member of parliament Zaake Francis, Party spokesperson
Joel Senyonyi and party Secretary general among many others. The team first
encountered blockage from a security team that had blocked the road along
Kabale- Kisoro Road denying Kyagulanyi and the team from accessing the Kabale
Main street.
This prompted
confusion among them questioning the security team commanded by the Kigezi
region Police Commander Ibrahim Saiga to why they decided to block the road yet
in other regions had a welcoming gesture. Amidst the confusion, Kyagulanyi led
his team and matched on foot along the high street of Kabale town amidst
chants, cheers, and Jubilation from supporters.
As the group made
way to Kabale Based Radio who they had booked for a talk show, they were being
blocked by police and UPDF from accessing the radio premises, directing them
off the main street. The team there after some few minutes of exchanging words,
got clearance from the Security team to make way to the radio station for a
30minute talk show.
Kyagulanyi later
opened up the NUP offices for Kigezi sub region along Nyerere Avenue in Kabale
town where he held a rally and deliberate matters of national importance asking
supporters not to engage in acts of divisionism and sectarianism since they are
all equal human beings. According to Kyagulanyi, there is no Muslim or Catholic
or even protestant but rather people are all the same.
Kyagulanyi also
highlighted the issue of labour externalization by educated people who export
Ugandans to seek for greener pastures outside Uganda yet job opportunities are
being compromised because of most of the mineral resources being owned by the
first family.
Chairman Nyazi Fred
asked People of Kabale and Kigezi at large to embrace party activities saying
that the National Unity platform is for all Ugandans but not only for the
central region. He added that as the party they are happy about the way police
are handling them this time around, which has been their call for this time
around.
Katebere Derrick,
the National Unity Platform chairperson for Kabale district laughed at whoever
has been spreading the propaganda that there is no NUP in Kabale district. He
said that having an office was that urgent need to help in enhancing
Mobilization to recruit more members into the party.
