Police in Kisoro have arrested a
40-year-old man for allegedly stoning a vehicle which belongs to Kisoro
district local government. The suspect has been identified as Agaba Francis, a
resident of Kirundo village Rutaka parish Kirundo Sub County.
It is alleged that Agaba Francis
and a one Tweheyo Venansi also in his 40’s on Tuesday evening laid logs in the
road and ordered the driver of Kisoro district local government vehicle
registration number UG 2576W not to proceed to the marrum collection centre. The
driver hesitated because murrum was meant to repair a district road in the
area. This forced the two locals to start pelting stones at the vehicle
smashing its windscreen.
The driver who escaped unhurt
notified his bosses at the district and they also alerted Kisoro police. Police
officers swung into action and arrested Agaba Francis while his colleague
Tweheyo Venant managed took off evading arrest.
The two suspects were in Nyundo
village at their kiln burning bricks. Residents who spoke to our reporter
expressed their concern over the continuous moral decay in the society. They
kept wondering how such grown up men would behave in a childish manner by
stoning a government vehicle doing district work.
Clad in yellow t-shirt with words
‘’NRM is my party”, the frightened Agaba Francis confessed for participating in
stones at the district vehicle and said that he did it under the influence of
alcohol. He said that he has two sheep at his home and is will sell them and
replace the smashed windscreen.
A police officer who preferred
anonymity because he is not allowed to speak to media said that they have
opened malicious damage charges against the accused and will be presented in
courts of law after completing the investigations.
