The chairperson of Red Cross Society governing board-
kisoro branch, Rose Kabageni, has expressed concerns over low membership
turnout, which she believes is impacting support from headquarters. Her remarks
came during the Annual General Meeting held on 28 september 2024, at the Kisoro District
Council Hall, attended by branch board members and society volunteers.
Kabagyeni urged community members to join the Red
Cross Society to boost membership which she says will increase the level of
support from headquarters. She highlighted that Kisoro receives less support
than other districts despite facing a higher frequency of disasters.
The Acting Branch Manager Manishimwe Bernard called on
Red Cross members and volunteers in Kisoro to intensify their humanitarian
efforts, emphasizing that this is essential for achieving the mission, vision,
and objectives of the Uganda Red Cross Society. He also mentioned the urgent
need to relocate Chibumba Primary School, which has been recently affected by
flooding, to a safer location to mitigate future risks.
Meanwhile, Dr Emmanuel Bahane, the Medical
Superintendent of Kisoro Hospital and Vice Chairperson of the Uganda Red Cross
Society Kisoro branch, advocated for increased cooperation and unity between
the hospital and the Red Cross Society, particularly in blood donation and
other humanitarian initiatives.
