Rehabilitation
works on Ruhezamyenda Bridge connecting Mukozi and Kashara in Nyundo and
Kirundo sub counties are expected to be completed in three weeks according to
the site engineer.
The
breakdown of this bridge has been inconveniencing transport, service delivery
and tourism in the area and the surrounding for several months.
On Friday
last week, the Kisoro district LCV chairman Abel Bizimana together with other
district officials launched its rehabilitation to answer public concerns and
works begun on Monday this week.
During his
monitoring and supervision visit to the site on Saturday 15th July 2023, the
Bukimbiri county Member of Parliament, Hon. Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu learned
that four new Culvert pipes have been added while water channels are being
still opened.
According
to one of the site engineers, light vehicles will start crossing starting today
after filling a huge water channel created by waters across the road. He added
some of the remaining works including marraming the road and building water
banks at the culverts.
Hon. Eddie
Kwizera commended efforts put in by the district to have this bridge
rehabilitated because it has for so long been diverting travels of locals and
tourists.
He urged
residents of Nyundo and Kirundo to invest in productive ventures and
agriculture so that they make use of this bridge when it is fully fixed.
Road users
and a resident of Mukozi commended the government for answering people's cries.
He noted that many parents had started defaulting school fees as their sources
of income had been blocked.
The bridge
was destroyed by waters of Ruhezamyenda after heavy downpour in March and
April.
