Kisoro
Vision Secondary school is celebrating for scooping a second position in the
Uganda National secondary school debate championships that ended on Saturday
last week in Mpigi district.
It was four days of nonstop action in Mpigi at St Lawrence schools crown
campus as we headed for the grand finale of the Uganda National Secondary
School debate championships for the year 2023.
These debates are organised annually by the Uganda National Students
Association powered by the Uganda Aids commission under the theme of ending HIV
stigma in Uganda.
Following a nonstop competition action in debate and public speaking in
as many as 110 schools that qualified from the regional tournaments, Kisoro vision
secondary school, St Henry’s college kitovu, St Mary’s college Kisubi and the
Kampala based Greenhill academy made it to the finals.
The Kampala city based Greenhill academy reigned supreme as the 2023
champions of the Uganda National Secondary School debate championships with 258
points While Kisoro Vision ss scooped the first runner up position with 253
points.
Kisoro Vision SS and Greenhill academy will represent Uganda at the East
Africa debate competition held in Kenya in November this year.
Speaking to this reporter, the director of Kisoro Vision secondary school, Dan
Munyambabazi commended the students that represented the school well and passed
through all levels of the competition undefeated until the final level that was
hard for the judges to decide on the winner.
He
committed himself to continue supporting the students that participated with
all necessities ahead of their east African championships. He expressed his
gratitude towards this competition that is exposing individual learners to different
life skills and rewards like laptops.
He called
upon people of Kisoro to always have belief in themselves, their children and
their schools that they can compete in all aspects of life and become victors.
He noted that Vision is determined to prove its doubters that it does not only
perform well in academics but also in other disciplines.
The
participants on behalf of Kisoro Vision are Irumva Suzan Melisa,in senior three
and a daughter to Nkuruziza Steven of Gishegera village in Kisoro municipality,
Irinatwe Hamlet a son to Mbarusha Charles of Nyarusiza sub county, Ishimwe
Baram and Uwayezu Speracia.
Irumva
Suzan said that they were happy for scooping the second position but felt like
the first position would have been better for them considering a smooth journey
they had throughout all stages. She noted that everyone was super excited after
learning that they will be continuing their challenge on the East African
level.
Irinatwe
commended Kisoro Vision secondary school for sacrificing itself to sponsor its
students in such a competition that fetched them with personal rewards and
experiences that they will never forget in life.
